How to finally enjoy your daily shot of Apple Cider Vinegar
Chances are you’ve heard of Apple Cider Vinegar and the various health benefits that come from adding it into your diet. You’re probably most familiar with its unique smell and taste, which is all thanks to acetic acid. This acid is formed during the fermentation process (the breakdown of chemicals in a substance) that takes place in order to create Apple Cider Vinegar.
First, crushed apples are exposed to yeast, which ferments the sugars and turns them into alcohol. Bacteria is then added to further ferment the alcohol, which turns it into acetic acid. This is the main active compound in ACV and what researchers believe to be responsible for allll of the health benefits it has to offer, such as:
Kills pathogens (bacteria, viruses, or other microorganisms that can cause disease)
When used in food, it can act as a preservative that also helps ward off E. Coli
Promotes gut health
Has shown great promise in research studies with improving insulin sensitivity and lowering blood sugar responses after meals
Antimicrobial and contains antioxidants
Helps to increase feelings of fullness, which can in turn help with weight loss
Improves heart health by lowering cholesterol
When diluted and applied to the skin, it can help with dryness and eczema (make sure to do a patch test if trying this for the first time!)
Can help kill off bacteria that can cause acne when used as a (diluted) toner
