The Benefits of Blue Tansy

Blue Tansy is one of our favorite skincare ingredients, and for good reason too! This yellow-flowered plant— originally from Northern Morocco and otherwise known as “Moroccan Blue Chamomile”— contains anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties as well as being very hydrating. It is best suited for angry, irritated skin conditions such as those who are dealing with acne, sensitivity, eczema, dermatitis, and inflammation. The plant becomes the brilliant blue color that we know and love through a chemical reaction that occurs during the steam distillation process and has a sweet, fruity smell that will make applying it to your skin even more enjoyable.

The three components of Blue Tansy:

Chamazulene: Causes the Blue color that appears during steam distillation

Sabinen: Helps to diminish the appearance of blemishes and acts as an anti-inflammatory

Camphor: Shown to help with inflammation and helps to repair damaged skin. Can also act as an anti-wrinkle agent

While you can purchase pure Blue Tansy oil, we highly suggest looking for a blended product that contains the ingredient as it should be diluted in order to avoid any negative side effects when applied to the skin in concentrated form. Shop a few of our favorites below!

Lapis oil from Herbivore is perfect for those of you with oily to combination skin (Remember: Oil fights oil) and helps to reduce inflammation, alleviate acne, balance your skins’ sebum production, and leaves you with a hydrated yet lightweight feel. Their Blue Tansy Resurfacing Clarity Mask is another wonderful option for those of you that have problematic skin and want something to help reduce congestion and remove dead skin, all while still fighting acne and inflammation.

Leahlani’s Bless Balm is a luxurious moisturizer that contains Blue Tansy as well as other nourishing ingredients, such as rosehip oil, jojoba, and shea butter. This balm is a multitasker in that it can be used as a moisturizer, as well as your cleanser! Just place a small amount (a little goes a looong way!) in your hands, apply to damp skin, and massage in as you would your normal cleanser. This balm is best for those with dry, sensitive or mature skin, and will help to lessen inflammation as well as strengthen and protect your complexion.
