Staying Hydrated Through Winter

Is winter weather putting a damper on your Summer glow? It’s no secret that cooler weather tends to leave us with dry, flaky skin that’s in need of some serious hydration, but there has to be a way to combat it, right?

Keep reading to learn about our top suggestions for getting through the cooler months!

Hydrate from the inside, out.

There’s definitely an emphasis on staying hydrated during the warmer months, as we know that being in the heat and sweating requires us to drink more water in order to avoid being dehydrated, but it’s just as important to stay on top of your water intake during the cooler months! Hydrating from the inside will help to boost circulation and oxygen, which then enhances your skins health, and can make it easier for your skincare products to work their magic.

If drinking water isn’t your favorite past time, adding a flavored elixir can help you to make sure you're drinking the recommended daily amount! We love the Hydrating Inner Beauty Boost from The Beauty Chef as a way to add flavor to bland water and to also provide you with nutrients that are vital for skin health, such as pre and probiotics, natural electrolytes, minerals, and vitamins. Their Collagen Inner Beauty Boost is a great option as well, especially for those of you who want to support both inner hydration and boost your skins natural collagen production, as it contains both Vitamin C and Zinc, as well as natural probiotics to support your internal microbiome!

Upgrade your moisturizer.

If inner hydration isn’t enough, moving on to a rich, heavy moisturizer would be the next step. This could be in the form of an oil, serum, or cream moisturizer. We have a few favorites that we highly recommend for this time of year!

  1. Linden Calendula Treatment from Eminence: This nourishing treatment can be used during the day, or at night for more intense hydration while you sleep. Linden helps to hydrate the skin, while Calendula tones, tightens, and supports the skin’s moisture levels. It also contains antioxidants, CoEnzyme Q10, and Alpha Lipoic Acid to improve the appearance of your skin.

  2. Pai Back To Life Hydration Serum: Suitable for sensitive and eczema prone skin, this hydrating serum contains Hyaluronic Acid, as well as a Tri-Berry complex, to boost your skin’s ability to retain moisture and protect against further moisture loss, all without irritation.

  3. Barrier Restore Serum from Marie Veronique: This serum contains highly active ingredients, all made to help restore your skin’s barrier layers, resulting in more hydrated skin. Sodium Hyaluronate helps to balance moisture levels and eliminate dry, dehydrated skin, while Ceramides plump the skin and help it to retain more moisture. This can help to lessen the need for a heavy moisturizer, even in extreme conditions. It’s also a great choice for those of you who are dealing with inflammation, dermatitis, acne, or even rosacea!

  4. Botnia Replenishing Oil: Deeply nourishing, hydrating, and anti-inflammatory. This facial oil is perfect for those of you with dry, irritated skin, as it helps to heal and protect, even from environmental damage.

Add a weekly mask to your routine.

Masks have a reputation for being just a fun addition to your self-care routine, but reaping the benefits at least once a week can help to deeply nourish and repair your skin in a way that your daily serums and moisturizers might not be able to! One of our favorites is the Gentle Hydration Mask from Botnia. This moisture-intensive treatment refreshes and rejuvenates the skin with the help of Hyaluronic Acid and vitamin B3, and also helps to fight inflammation with rose extract and geranium hydrosol.

Another favorite of ours is the Pai Rosehip BioRegenerate Rapid Radiance Mask. This helps to restore radiance through the help of Strawberry Leaf, and deeply hydrates with the help of Rosehip CO2 extract.

Enhance your facial.

As always, a seasonal facial is extremely beneficial, as your esthetician can help address any new concerns that may have popped up since your last treatment, as well as come up with a curated routine just for your skin type. We offer various different facial enhancements, but the one we really recommend during this time of year is our Jet Peel Facial. This enhancement uses saline to help those of you with dry, dehydrated, or congested skin, and can also calm down any inflammation that may be present.

Don’t forget the rest of your body!

Hydration doesn’t just start and stop with your face- the rest of your body craves this too! We highly recommend the Thera Intensive Body Cream by Lavido for dry, irritated skin, as it contains ultra-nourishing ingredients to help hydrate and heal. This lotion was created specifically for those of you with sensitive skin, and has even been proven to help heal stubborn skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis! (I can personally attest to this!)

Using an in-shower exfoliator a few times a week can help your lotion to penetrate even deeper into your skin, as this will help to remove any dead skin cells that might be sitting on the surface. We love the Luminous Body Scrub from Botnia because of its gentle-yet-effective ability to reveal brighter, smoother skin. It can even help to banish any irritation or sensitivities through the use of our all-time favorite healing ingredient- Goldenseal. (Tip: Look for an exfoliator that doesn’t contain coconut oil to avoid a clogged shower drain!)

For dry hands, we cannot get enough of the Fragonia & Sea Buckthorne Instant Hand Therapy Cream from Pai. Fragonia acts as a natural antibacterial, while Sea Buckthorne helps to nourish and soften the skin. It truly does heal dryness and irritation on your hands almost instantly, and never leaves them feeling greasy like other hand lotions might.

Warmly,
